My Whale Watching Trip
On this page, you will find some of my favourite whale watching photos and videos taken from the trip that inspired The Lost Whale. This book is my love letter to the ocean and I am so excited to share it with you!
Back in early 2020, I spent 4 incredible, life-changing days on marine protected waters in Baja, Mexico where the grey whales travel each winter to mate and have their calves. Being here was such a beautiful experience that I just had to put it in a book! I hope you enjoy seeing my real-life images and live footage of these incredible, awe-inspiring creatures.

The Eye of A Whale
The moment the whale looked at me was so breath-taking and profound. It literally inspired the whole book!
Touching A Whale
If you want to know what a grey whale feels like . . . they feel surprisingly rubbery and soft. What’s amazing about them is how close they get to the boats. They really are called the “friendly whale” for a reason.
White Beak!
Not THE White Beak - who is the whale from the book. But a grey whale with a white nose. Close up you can see all the parasites on her beak.
Eco Hut
Our VERY rustic accommodation for our whale watching trip.
Grey Whale Tail
It has a very distinctive fluke, as described in the story by Marina.
Grey Whale Skeleton
Probably not a complete one, unlike the museum in Ocean Bay, but still impressive!
An Eco Message
We saw this on a wall in Mexico. It translates as Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
Pelican In The Wild
We saw lots of pelicans during our trip! If you look closely at some of the chapter headings in The Lost Whale, you might even see a pelican or two there . . .
Me & Chris
This is me and my husband, Chris, enjoying a boat ride and looking the kind of happy only the ocean can make you feel!
Pacific Sunset
The Pacific sunset in all its glory!

Dolphins!
This is the moment when some dolphins decided to bow-surf alongside our boat. It was so amazing that I had to borrow this scene & put it straight into the book!
Spyhop!
I had to include a video of a whale spyhopping - the moment when they poke their head out of the water to have a good look around.
Order Below
I can’t wait to hear what you think of the book!
I’m including all the various places where you can order a copy here:
